A Pioneer Passes.
With sympathy sincere to the Brogan family, we record the passing of their mother, Mrs. Jane Brogan, who was born at Louisville, Kentucky, October 25th, 1854. At the age of twelve, Janie Byrnes came to Kansas and in 1877 married John Brogan who passed to his reward four years ago. To this union ten children were born, seven of whom are now living.
We who knew the deceased so well, especially during the eleven weeks of illness preceding her death, share in the family's grief, in this hour of bereavement. In the fond hope that we may pluck from their memory a rooted sorrow; for Grandma Brogan was ever the friend of the sick, the suffering and the afflicted. In her passing we have lost a dear old friend, a patient and tender hearted mother whose simple and kindly traits will linger in our memories when the moss and the lichen have taken up their silent watch above dear Grandma's grave.
Funeral services were conducted from St. Mary's Church on April 21st in the presence of a large number of relatives and sympathizes. The remains were laid to rest beside those of her husband in Mount Olivet cemetery.
To mourn her loss she leaves seven children and twenty grandchildren.
