On June 28, 1962, Joanne married Bertram Emory (Bert) King. He later adopted her children and together they had Virginia Lee and Bertram Neilson (Spider) King.

Joanne LOVED Waco. She grew up there and never wanted to leave it. She loved its people, its land, and its history. She especially loved her family.

Joanne served on many committees including the Hedonia Club, the Waco Cotton Palace, and the Historic Waco Foundation. She served on many boards, but most loved her work on the East Terrace guild. She hosted many luncheons, parties, and dinner groups at her lovely home on Pecan Terrace Drive. Her family gathered at their home for weddings, receptions, and many other family gatherings.

She loved her days sitting by The Fish Pond (the Waco Boating & Fishing Club) on Fish Pond Road in Waco, floating on the barge on Lake Waco, and digging her toes in the sand at Port Aransas.

Survivors include: Bert King,

Sister Peggy McGregor, Debbie Ballard, Shelby King, Virginia Avant, and Bert (Spider) King.
