Christine Vaughn Sweatman, 90, passed away in the loving presence of her children and grandchildren Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at Regent Care Center in San Antonio.

No formal services are planned. Friends and family are invited to celebrate her incredible life from 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 7, in the Sun Room of the Paris Golf & Country Club in Paris.

Her ashes are to be interred in Long Cemetery in Powderly, where her late husband of 61 years, William Sweatman, is buried, along with her parents, grandparents and other relatives.

She was born Aug.12, 1919, in Lamar County, to George W. and Laura Bonifield Vaughn. She attended schools in Lamar County and South Texas. She married William Z. "Bill" Sweatman Aug. 31, 1940, in Chillicothe. During World War II, a true "Rosie the Riveter," she worked at the bomber factory in San Diego, Calif., building PBYs, while her husband served in the Navy in the Pacific. Her career was in banking in South Texas and in Sacramento, Calif. She and Bill retired to Powderly and later to Paris where they enjoyed many golden years of retirement. She loved her family, gardening, entertaining, decorating and card games.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Z. Sweatman, Feb. 20, 2002; granddaughter, Cynthia Ingram Mireles; brothers, Ted Barnett and Eugene Vaughn; and sisters, Mary Maxine Forman and Esther Yeager.

She is survived by her son, John E. Ingram, Jr. and his wife, Caroline Ingram; one grandson, John Ingram III and his wife, Paula Ingram; two great-grandchildren, Johnie Ingram IV and Rachel Ingram of San Antonio; and one sister, Eleanor Osburn of Fort Worth. She is also survived by several generations of loving nieces and nephews.

Being a lover of all living things, her desire was that any memorial donations be made to the Lamar County Animal Shelter or other charities of choice. Published November 2, 2009
