LaVale, MD – George Washington Bangert, 76, of LaVale, MD, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2021, at UPMC Western Maryland.

Born March 1, 1945, in Baltimore, MD, Mr. Bangert was the son of the late Michael Henry Bangert and Anna (Neal) Bangert. He was also preceded in death by a sister: Betty Gibbs; two brothers: Jimmy Bangert and Lawrence Shue: a son: Robbie Bangert; and a stepdaughter: Cathy Shaffer.

A United States Marine Corps Veteran, George was a retired engineer from CSX Railroad. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and target shooting. George loved watching informative shows on television and was an avid Pinochle player.

George is survived by his wife of 27 years on April 1, 2021: Donna Bangert; his son: George Bangert, Jr.; and his daughter: Yvette Bangert and wife, Marie. He also leaves behind his stepdaughters: Amy Fitzgerald and husband, Joe; Debbie Warble and husband, Steven; and Kelly Holler and husband, Kirk; his stepsons: Paul Coakley and wife, Terri; and Kevin Coakley and wife, Rhonda; his sister: Gerri Owens; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; his favorite grand dog: Pistol Pete; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Monday, April 12, 2021, from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. A funeral service will follow at Noon with Pastor Denny Michael officiating.

Interment will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard.
