Phyllis graduated from Sweetser High School Class of 1946.
She worked at Knox Glass and later at Foster Forbes. Phyllis was very active in her community and was a Girl Scout Leader for 17 years. She loved to make quilts and comforter sets. She was famous for her chicken and noodles at family gatherings.
Survivors include her daughter, Joyce Warren of Gas City; son-in-law, Dan Brodt; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Glen Whitaker; son, Bobby Whitaker; daughter, Teresa Brodt; two brothers, Ray Barker and David Barker; two sisters, Barbara Morgan and Ethel Moore; and son-in-law, Max Warren.
The family will receive visitors from 10:30 am to 11:30 am on Friday, April 9, 2021, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 325 E. North A St., Gas City, IN 46933.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Phyllis's life will begin at 11:30 am with Rev. Kevin Hurley officiating. Burial will take place at Marion National Cemetery.
