Our beloved husband, father, and Papa, Dennis C. Vine, 81, passed away Friday, April 2, 2021 at Windsor Lane Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Gibsonburg, Ohio with his wife Judy by his side. Dennis fought a hard battle the last 3 years with Parkinson's and dementia.
Dennis was born September 4, 1939 with his twin brother Donald Jr. to Donald H. and LaVera L. Vine at their home on Main St in Genoa Oh. Dennis graduated from Genoa High School in 1957, he attended BGSU and Stautzenberger Business School, where he met Judith A. Ripley and they eventually married on April 23, 1960. They had two daughters, Debra Sue Vine and Julie Beth Vine.
Dennis worked at Genoa Banking Co. for 38 years where he worked his way up from a teller position and eventually becoming Vice President of the loan department. He met, helped, and was respected by many people in Genoa and surrounding communities. He retired in 1999. After retiring, because he loved being busy and talking to people, he went on to work part time for Ernie Cottrell at Buckeye Title and the Andersons General Store at the Woodville Mall.
Dennis was an avid outdoorsman all his life, enjoying hunting and fishing. He was known as Captain D.C. Vine of BayHawk Charters for several years. Dennis made many fishing buddies from various cities and states with his best friend/first mate the late Leland "Sox" Roecker by his side. He wanted everyone aboard the BayHawk to be the best fisherman they could be and catch their limit of fish. Dennis, with his family and friends, enjoyed many fishing vacations in Canada and Michigan, catching many species of fish.
Dennis was also a great woodworker, who enjoyed crafting many cabinets, beautiful furniture and special wooden boxes for friends and family. This hobby is what led him to his part-time job at the Andersons General Store hardware department, where he could share his knowledge of tools and wood with anyone who needed help. You could also find him wandering around the Deli department, sampling all the free samples or just talking with customers when he wasn't busy in his department.
Dennis leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Judith; daughter, Julie (Andrew) Szypka; granddaughter, Shana (Erick) Scharer; grandson, Bradley (Josie) Szypka; great-granddaughter, Raelyn Grace "baby girl" Scharer; sister, MaryEllen Waldron; brother-in-law, James (Hilda) Ripley; special cousins, Patricia (Bill) Bastow, Jeff Chambers and Terry Chambers; and many nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Dennis was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Sue Vine; his parents, Donald H. and LaVera Vine; and brother Donald Vine Jr.
Graveside Services for Dennis will take place on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Clay Township Cemetery, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Debra Sue Vine Scholarship or to the Allen-Clay Joint Fire District, Station #36, Genoa. The Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Genoa was honored to assist the Vine family. To send an online condolence or share a memory of Dennis, please visit: www.walkerfuneralhomes.com
