Janet Evelyn Garrett, 78, passed through Glory's Morning Gate and walked into Paradise to be with Her Lord and Savior on March 20, 2021.

She was born in Houston, Texas, on November 15, 1942, and she was the third of 10 children born to James Roland and Mary Evelyn Killingsworth Deaton.

On February 5, 1962, she eloped with William "Bill" Frank Garrett, and the couple celebrated their 40th anniversary in 2002, the same year he lost his battle to cancer.

Her passion for reading led her to a career as a librarian. She retired from Waller County as the Brookshire Pattison Librarian. She loved cooking and baking and established a scholarship at the University of Texas in honor of her late husband funded mainly by bake sales. Janet collected owls, enjoyed traveling – she visited the 48 contiguous United States traveling with her husband and daughters on summer vacations, and praised Jesus as a member of Monaville Baptist Church. She never passed up an opportunity to volunteer and served in many organizations such as the Waller FFA Booster Club, Waller County Aggie Moms Club, Friends of the Brookshire Pattison Library, Meals on Wheels and others. While she was often called president, her favorite title was Me-Me.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

She is survived by daughters Nannette R. Williams of Huntington, Texas, and her husband, Robert, and Jennifer K. Hancock of Bryan, Texas, and her husband, Keith; grandchildren Tiffany Williams, Kristian Ham and her husband, Ryan, Garrett Hancock and his wife, Clare; great-grandsons Mason Harris and Kolten Ham; siblings Dee Hutchins, Jimmy Deaton, Randy Deaton, Philip Deaton, Cheryl Matelske, Nelda Bowles, Lyn Gibson, Rusty Deaton, Jeff Deaton and their spouses; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, whom she considered family.

Her family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, March 26, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Canon Funeral Home, 1420 Farr St., Waller, Texas, 77484. Pastor Mike Garrett will officiate a Celebration of Janet's Life at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 27, 2021, also at Canon Funeral Home.

Interment will follow at Shiloh Cemetery.
