Elizabeth Tolar was the 1st wife of John Brooks.

She was the mother of Delaney Brooks per the DAR record of Charlotte Mae Jones for Micajah Brooks. This record states that Elizabeth Tolar was born circa 1796 in North Carolina and died in 1832 in Georgia. This information was provided in a notarized statement from Mahala Elizabeth Irving, the daughter of Hosea C. Rasbury and Dicie L. Pickett. She was a great granddaughter of John Brooks and Elizabeth Tolar.

An additional notarized statement was given by Mrs. Stewart Freeman, the daughter of James T. Brooks and his wife Elizabeth. She was a granddaughter of John Brooks and Elizabeth Tolar. She goes on to say that "The children of John Brooks and his first wife, Elizabeth Tolar were Delaney, Allen, John and three daughters who lived around Sulphur Springs, Texas. All are now dead."
