It is difficult to describe how much mom meant to her family and friends. She was thoughtful, caring, and loving. Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmoth-er, and friend will be greatly missed. Alta was born November 23, 1917 in Salt Lake City to Malinda M. Butterworth and Lawrence R. Pike. She lived on the family property until she passed away October 24, 2007. She attended Granite High School before leaving to care for her ailing sister, Minerva. Always the consummate care giver, over the years she also provided for her parents, aunts, uncles, siblings, and her beloved husband, Earl. Earl and Alta were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple May 25, 1938.

Being quite the prankster, Alta always had a surprise for Earl who was fortunate enough to have been born April 1st. Well known for her beautiful crafts, family and friends could always look forward to the wonderful quilts, afghans, booties, dollies, and many other hand made gifts. Alta was a proud member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and gave of her talents generously to her church.

She leaves behind her children, Gene (Jeannie), Layton, UT, Linda (Michael) Key, SLC, Steven (Sarah), SLC; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Wanda. She was preceded in death by husband, Earl; and sons, Larry and Keith.

Friends and family may visit Tuesday, October 30, 2007 from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to funeral services 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at Memorial Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Drive.
