DEATH CLAIMS SARAH D. OWEN
Sarah Dorrance Owen died yesterday at Huntington Park, where she had lived since the death, 10 years ago, of her husband, Charles E. Owen, veteran business man here.
The body is being sent here for burial. Dorrance Owen, her son, will arrive here tomorrow from Huntington Park to make arrangements for the funeral. The services will be held at 1"30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the B.C. Wallace chapel. Interment will be in Park View Cemetery. Friends and acquaintances are invited.
Mrs. Owen was one of the three children of H.T. Dorrance and Achsah Bird Dorrance, both natives of Vermont, who came to California in 1850 and were prominent in the business and social life of the community. Her sister became Mrs. H. M. Clays and her brother was C. Fred Dorrance, both now deceased.
Her father was associated in the harness and saddlery business here, first with his broter-in-law, M.L. Bird, and later with J.T. Oldham. In 1866 he was elected counter clerk, serving in that capacity until 1870.
He was school trustee for eight years and presented the diplomas to the first graduating class in Stockton High School, for whom one of Stockton's schools in named.
Mrs. Owen spent the greater part of her life in Stockton, rearing her family here. Her daughter, Elise Owen Brown, died two years ago in Huntington Park. Besides her son, Mrs. Owen leaves a son-in-law, Bruce Brown, and four grandchildren.
