Obituary of Marcella M. Koontz
Marcella Mae Koontz, 71, returned to the loving arms of her Lord and savior, and more importantly, back into the arms of her loving husband, Randall, on March 30, 2021. Marcella Mae Stender was born in March, 16, 1950, the third child of Vivian (Ayers) and Herb Stender in Dubuque, Iowa.

When circumstances in the Stender household made raising "Marcy", as she preferred to be called throughout her life, and her three brothers unattainable, she and her brothers were taken in by a couple, Mr. Fred and Mrs. Ethel Hohensee. They were raised on a farm outside of Dubuque, Iowa. Marcy's relationship with her mother was extremely estranged, to the point that if the family is asked about who they called Mom and Dad, or Grandma and Grandpa, it was the Hohensees they were referring to.

In October of 1971, Marcy married Donald Stewart Dungan, of Cedar Rapids Iowa, (originally from Kansas City, MO). Mr. and Mrs. Dungan had one son, who survives her. The couple were married for 32 years until Mr. Dungan's passing in 2003.

Marcy was able to find love again, in the form of Mr. Randall Koontz. They were married in 2005. For 15 years, they knew love, happiness, laughter. They bought a home together and were fully committed to spending out the remaining years of their lives together. Tragically, Mr. Koontz passed away in July of 2020.

If the mark of a loving family were the ONLY test of one's legacy, Marcy easily has that covered. Her three brothers survive her. Mr. Dungan had three children from a previous marriage, two daughters and a son. The son, and one of the daughters, preceded Marcy in death. The other daughter survives. Mr. Koontz had five children from a previous marriage, four sons and a daughter. They all survive her. Her son with Mr. Dungan survives her. There are almost ten nieces and nephews. The number of grandchildren and great-children, at last count, might easily top fifty.

A loving family, however, is not the only proof of one's legacy. Marcy absolutely did not know a stranger. When she met you, you became her friend, a friendship that would endure uninterrupted for decades. She was active in her church, Calvary Heritage Baptist. Marcy worked at Boone Hospital for 35 years. The people who would say to you, "This was my friend" could easily top two dozen names.

For this day, however, and in the future, those friends and those family members know that a bright star of laughter and love, though at peace and reunited with the man she loved, has now left this world. She truly will be remembered as a good person. I cannot give a greater testimony than that.

A visitation will be held will be at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W, Columbia, MO 65202 on Saturday, April 10th from 10am till time of funeral service at Noon. Masks and social distancing guidelines will be in place. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
