Alva – The funeral for Max Bliss, 77, will be 4 p.m. Tuesday in Green Valley Free Methodist Church. The Rev Tom Kegin and J Edsel Hall will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wharton Funeral Chapel.

He was born November 18, 1925, east of Avard to Hazel Alpha Alcore and Ralph Flyne Bliss and died Saturday, October 4, 2003, at Stillwater Medical Center after an illness.

He attended Antelope rural grade school. In 1945, he joined the Navy, serving on USS Lafayette in the Pacific. On March 5, 1945, he married Alberta Riggs in Green Valley Free Methodist Parsonage. They lived in Alva. He worked for the city of Alva until 1949, when he went to Enid and worked in construction of grain elevators. In 1950, the couple moved to the farm her grandparents homesteaded. He again worked for the city of Alva, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Green Valley Free Methodist Church and Woods County Minerals Association.

Surviving are his wife, Alberta of the home; two sons, Ronald of Enid and Lonnie of Carnegie; one sister, Martha Abbott of Texarkana, Texas; one brother, Ray Riggs of Pond Creek; sis grandchildren and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Memorials may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Heart Division.
