Reuben and Catherine Holt owned a huge plantation with a big colonial type home. Then War broke out and she lost her husband, and her slaves. She was then unable to run the plantation. Her money was worthless. Her large family helped and they survived. Mother Holt was an efficient midwife and delivered numberless babies for neighbors as well as for the slave mothers.
