"Jessie was a born 23 May 1895 and died 7 July 1895. Little Jessie Lived less than two months. She died from measles. Her death hurt Daddy and Mother pretty bad. She is buried at Red Rock Cemetery in Vowell's Mill. Her grave is marked with an unusual tombstone that covers the entire grave. The stone was made by Daddy (Elijah Clark) and Benny Storey when they were in that business."
Jessie was the fifteenth child of Eliza and "Lige" Clark. Neighbors marveled that parents grieved so deeply over the loss of this baby. Considering the large family they had, it seemed strange that the death of one baby would be the cause of deep sorrow. They were assured that no matter how many there might be, each was precious and loved. "We don't have any to spare."
