Gretta was born in Logan, Utah on Saturday, 9 May 1936, to Vance Hugh and Neta Joanna (Hansen) Benson. She was raised in Trenton, Utah and graduated from North Cache High and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' seminary. In her youth, Gretta became a voracious reader with an expansive vocabulary.
After high school graduation, Gretta took a job in Salt Lake City, Utah as a secretary / bookkeeper and lived in the Beehive House. Her next job took Gretta back to Logan where she was an Administrative Assistant at Utah State University.
There, she met Alvin Curless on a blind date. They married in the Logan Temple on Monday, 23 January 1961. She and Alvin settled in Logan where they raised their family.
Gretta learned how to and refined her sewing, knitting and cross-stitch skills, along with her baking, canning and cooking the fresh produce grown in their garden.
Active in the Church throughout her life, Gretta loved people and always looked for a chance to serve them, even if it was just a call to check in on them. She served in various auxiliary organizations and thrived in Relief Society where her counselors and secretaries also became lifelong friends.
In addition to her parents, Gretta was predeceased by her sweetheart, Alvin Curless; children, (baby) Elizabeth Curless and Alan Curless; and her elder siblings.
Left to cherish her memory are Gretta's children, Catherine (Kris) Schulthies and John (Tonya) Curless; daughter-in-law, Lisa Curless; brother, Lionel (Donna) Benson; and eleven beloved grandchildren.
Services for Gretta will be Saturday, 27 March 2021 as follows:
