Lawrence C. Owens, 95, of Evansville, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 22, 2021 at his home. He was born on July 22, 1925 in Lynnville, Indiana to Alvah and Mabel (Gentry) Owens.

He served in the U.S. Navy from November 15, 1943 to April 15, 1946 aboard the destroyer, USS Maddox with Admiral Halsey's 3rd fleet in the South Pacific. Lawrence retired from Old Ben Coal Company #1 after 41 years. He was a member of Local 5179 in Oakland City for 74 years. Lawrence was a member Northwoods Church in Evansville. He was a member of Kiwanis Club in Oakland City, Masonic Lodge in Oakland City and the Oakland City School Board.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty (Gray) Owens; son, James Owens; second wife, Beulah (Heacock) Owens; his brothers, Paul, Harold, Tom, and Ray; and his sister, Genevieve.

He is survived by his son, Kelly Owens; daughter, Joyce Owens; ten grandkids; thirteen great-grandkids; three great-great-grandkids; brothers, Bill (Dorothy) and Jean (Doris).

A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on April 10, 2021 at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Campbelltown, Indiana officiated by Pastor Bobby Pell. Arrangements by Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel. Published in Courier Press from Mar.24, to Mar. 25, 2021.
