Alex Tribune, Alex, Grady Co., OK, Friday, September 8, 1911: "Old Pioneer Passes Away - George Dillard, one of the last known pioneers and settlers of central and eastern Oklahoma, died at his home near Ireton Thursday evening, Aug. 31. Mr. Dillard was about fifty eight years old and was born at Goodland, in the old Indian Territory. Mr. Dillard's parents came to the Indian Territory from Mississippi about sixty five years ago, being among the first white settlers in what is now Oklahoma. Mr. Dillard spent his life as a pioneer, a ranch man, a guide and a farmer, always in some part of the old Indian Territory, and it is said that he knows every old trail and cabin in the eastern part of the state. While a young man Mr. Dillard married and is survived by a wife and three sons. He spent part of his time for the last two years in Chickasha where he has been in the real estate business. He was a member of the Odd Fellows order, of whose members in Chickasha, several came down to Alex Friday to attend the funeral held under the auspices of the Odd Fellows lodge. Interment was in Laflin Cemetery."
