Vernon James Young, 85 of Valparaiso, passed away Friday, March 19, 2021. He was born August 5, 1935 in Valparaiso to George and Martha (Weishjohn) Young.

On April 15, 1989 he married Linda Eaton who passed away December 4, 2007.

Vernon is survived by his children Rodney (Marcia), Wayne (Janet), Ronald “Whitey”, Scott, Laura, Richie, Louetta, Vernon (Darlene) and Shelly; 10 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, seven step grandchildren and 13 step great grandchildren; his brothers Robert and Les and his sisters Sue and Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death in addition to his wife Linda are his parents and an infant son.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #94 in Valparaiso, the Moose Lodge #1623 in Chesterton, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #2517 in Valparaiso, and a proud union member of Local 6787. Vernon was a U.S Korean Conflict veteran and enjoyed playing golf.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 25th at Bartholomew Funeral Home, 102 Monroe St. in Valparaiso. Pastor Paul Bush will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso. Visitation will be on Thursday from 11:00 AM until the time of services at the funeral home.
