Interment will follow in the Union Springs Cemetery in Corrigan, Texas. Visitation will be held Monday, April 11, 2016 from 1-2 p.m. in the Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel.

Lawana Chandler Clarke (Swann, Smith) was born May 24, 1927 to James Blackburn "Blackie" and Florence Aydelotte Chandler in the small community of Pluck, just outside of Corrigan, Texas. She entered her eternally Heavenly home Friday, April 8, 2016, from The Joseph House in Lufkin.

In 1946 Lawana married James C. "Jim" Swann, Jr.; to this union was born a son, James Reagan Swann. As life was just beginning for this young couple, Jim passed away the following year as a result of an industrial accident. She remained single for the next thirty-eight years until marrying "secret high school sweetheart", Fred Smith, in 1985. She quickly became his fishing and gardening companion. They enjoyed many new adventures together. At Fred's death in 1989, she once again found herself single. In 1995, through the encouragement and support of mutual life-long friends, Lawana and Dale Clarke became a couple; marrying in 1995. She enjoyed taking short trips with Dale, until a long-term illness limited his outings--eventually taking his life in 2003.

This fiercely independent woman was devoted mother and father, as well as sole provider for Reagan. Lawana worked as a book-keeper for Edens-Birch Lumber Company in Corrigan approximately twenty years before moving to Nacogdoches in 1964. She was employed by Gound Chevrolet for many years, honing her accounting skills as technology advanced from manual calculations to computerization, retiring in 1985. She also "kept books" for numerous others while putting herself through college; earning a Bachelor's Degree in Business in the early 1970's. She also worked for Mike Perry Motor Company in the early 90's.

Never one to be idle, Lawana enjoyed crafts of all sorts--most especially crocheting, and working in her yard year-round. She loved to watch things grow and had quite a green thumb; squirrels being her only challenge, particularly with her figs and pecans. She loved to bake sweets and equally enjoyed eating them.

Although extremely private, and shying from the lime-light of traditional social circles, she remained close with a small group of her dearest Corrigan High school-mates. She was also part of a close-knit bunch of Nacogdoches gals she met through work, crafting classes and church.

She was baptized the evening of March 19, 1989, at First Baptist Church, Corrigan. Upon her return to Nacogdoches she continued her service to the Lord at a couple of different churches, including Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Lawana was a God-send to so many! Probably many more than we will ever know. While she could sometimes seem to have a distant air about her, in reality she was one of the kindest, most caring and generous women you could know. She repeatedly triumphed over tragedy. When Lawana loved, she did so with her entire heart, body and soul. She was committed and dedicated beyond measure to those she loved; truly one of the most courageous and genuine ladies God ever made.

Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Lawana, be it family or friend, was truly blessed.

Lawana is survived by her son: James Reagan "Jim" Swann and wife Linda of Lufkin; Brad Swann and wife Tammy, Greg Swann and wife Vicki and Penny Moore; seven great grandchildren; the Family of Fred Smith and the Family of Dale Clarke.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands: James C. "Jim" Swann, Jr.; Fred Smith; Dale Clarke; and great granddaughter: Courtney Swann.

Pallbearers: Brad Swann, Greg Swann, Garrett Swann, Dawson Moore, Landon Moore, Drew Jones.

Honorary Pallbearer: Ronnie Smith
