The Gretna Breeze, Gretna, NE - Friday, 16 August 1912
The funeral of Marshall Bridges occurred last Friday morning from the Methodist church, the services being conducted by Rev. A. L. Kellogg. Interment was made in the LaBorde cemetery. A large number of sorrowing friends were present to pay their last respects to the memory of the deceased.
The deceased was a resident of Gretna for a number of years, being a brick mason by trade. For several years he was city marshall and street commissioner here. He was a kind and indulgent father and a devoted and loving husband. Mr. Bridges had a big heart, and when sickness and death came to Gretna households he was always on hand to do what he could. He took a prominent part in Gretna life and had hosts of friends here.
About a year ago he moved out to Elsemere to be with his family on the homestead. He suffered a slight attack of paralysis a few weeks ago and came down here to doctor up. Last week he had two more attacks to which he succumbed.
Marshall Bridges was born in an Indian settlement in Decatur county, Iowa. He was 57 years, 3 months and 18 days old at the time of his death. In 1875 he was married to Miss Josephine Allard at Hamburg, Iowa. Sixteen children were born to the couple, eight of whom are living as follows: Mrs. C. H. Cottrell, Millard, Mrs. H. J. Bottcher, Omaha, C. A. Bridges, Millard, Mrs. C. Bray, Mason City, Leutisha, Hattie and Ed Bridges, Elsemere, and John N. Bridges, Fremont. His widow also survives him, also nine grandchildren.
He leaves five brothers and sisters, Mrs. Radley, Midland, S.D., Lee and Ed Bridges, Omaha, Isaac and Miss Rose Bridges of Gretna. The Breeze extends its heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
