Adrienne Kathleen Favale, 83, a loving and generous Mom and Grandmother died unexpectedly on Saturday, March 13, 2021. She was in the loving embrace of her family. Adrienne graduated from Oswego State Teachers College, NY, in 1959, and began her 44 year teaching career in Freeport, N.Y. She retired in 2003, from District 54(Anne Fox Elementary School, Hanover Park, IL). During this time, she and her husband, Tom, raised their six children. She also managed to share her love of music with others. She provided piano and flute lessons for numerous families over the years and continued to do so after her retirement. Our Mother’ slove of teaching never waivered; she continued to share her gift of teaching others through numerous avenues; volunteering with Life Long Learning Institute and tutoring as an ESL instructor. Our Mother also saw the need to stimulate and engage older adults. She led conversation groups at local retirement communities. As her children, we are overwhelmed, and in complete awe of the immeasurable impact that our Mom’s graciousness had on others’ lives.She was always thinking about how she could help those in need and enrich their lives. This is how our mom led her life; well-lived! Our Mom was a lover of nature. One of her greatest joys was providing daily nourishment for all of the squirrels, chipmunks, deer, birds, ducks and fox in her ‘Green Cathedral. ’Our deepest sympathies go to our Mom’s dear friends. We know how much she loved and cared for you. We are forever grateful for how much you loved and cared for her.
She is survived by her six children, 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild; Thomas Favale, Jr., Jennifer (Laddie) Polz, Erin Sanchez, Paul Favale, Heather Favale (Stacey),Elizabeth (Qian) Guo; her grandchildren, Thomas III, Nicholas, Caitlyn (Josh), Patrick, Jack, Sydney (La’el), Joseph, Ryan, Galen, Addison, Ethan and great grandson, Aiden: her brother, Kenneth Meltz; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Favale; her father, Dr. Sidney Meltz, her mother, Rose Meltz; her sister, Marguerite Vincz; her two stillborn sons; son-in-law, Joseph Sanchez; grandchildren, Samantha Sanchez and Blake Favale.
A celebration of our beloved and dear Mom’s life will be held in June (date to be determined). In lieu of flowers, and in honor of our Mom (Adrienne K. Favale), and carrying on her generosity, a donation to your favorite charity, in her memory, would be appreciated.
On the day our Mom passed, we discovered a beautiful farewell letter that she had written thirty-five years ago:
“My Dear Loved Ones,
From the moment of our birth we begin out travels on the long road home. For some that road is long, for others short. Only God, in his wisdom, determines the direction and paths we must take.
I have traveled that road and collected a treasure chest of memories and experiences along the way.
My life has been very full and I have accomplished the goals I have set for myself as fully as has been possible. I have enjoyed my professional and personal life, and have been rewarded a thousand-fold in the knowledge that I did the best job I could in my career and in raising my family.
I am proud of the persons you have become an secure in the love Dad, you and I share as a family.
My wish for you is that you continue looking toward the future, always reaching to be the best you can be. Fill your lives with loving others. Reach out and touch those you meet along the way. Let not petty differences or prejudices cloud you relationships with those you meet. Take time along the way to stop and reflect.
