Genevieve Wright Frantzen passed away peacefully at Highland Manor, she was 92 years old. She was born to Henry Hugh Wright and Lulu Boyd Wright. Gen graduated from Elko County High School in 1933 as class valedictorian. She married her childhood sweetheart, Earl, on July 22, 1934. The couple's son, Larry, was born Nov. 11, 1937. While her husband was overseas during World War II, Gen worked as a secretary for the Western Pacific Railroad. Following the war, a daughter, Kristen, was born Oct. 11, 1951.
Gen and Earl were co-owners of the Elko Daily Free Press, along with Mae and Mel Steninger. They were members of the First Presbyterian Church of Elko. Gen was the church secretary while Rev. Harold Van Zee was the pastor. She belonged to the Presbyterian Women's Association, Ruth Circle and later Esther Circle, Elko 20th Century Club, Ruby View Women's Golf Club, Needles (CA) Women's Golf Association, and Northeast Nevada Historical Society.
Gen was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, in November 2001. She is survived by her son, Larry Frantzen (wife Joan) of Sacramento, Calif.; her daughter Kristen Orr (husband Russ) of Spring Creek, Nev.; four grandchildren, David Orr (wife Amanda) of Mesa, Ariz., Geoffrey Orr of Elko, Nev., Jason Frantzen (wife Cindy) of Sacramento, Calif., and Angela Mackey (husband Ted) of Brawley, Calif.; and three great-grandchildren, Victoria Rose, Ruth Marie and Grace Ann Mackey.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the First Presbyterian Church.
