Note: He was a Colonel in the Revolutionary War∼John Stearns resided on the homestead of his father[2] and died in 1729. Inventory of his estate was taken early in 1731 by Thomas Straight, John Coolidge, and Samuel Pearce. It amounted to 952.3.10 of which 751 pounds were in real estate and was sworn to June 13, 1732 by the widow, Abigail Stearns.[3/19:348] A committee was appointed to appraise John's real estate. It was made up of Joseph Mason, Deacon Nathan Fiske, Deacon John Coolidge, Lt. Samuel Stearns, and Samuel Pierce. Josiah Stearns, one of the sons of the deceased, showed the property to the committee.[3/20:280] Josiah was the second son of John and was to receive two thirds of the estate and to pay their shares to his brothers and sisters. Son John was to receive a double share as the eldest son.[3/20:281]
