Jackson Harrison Bowman III passed away May 31st at 9:30 P.M. with his loving wife Runelle, son Jackson and daughter-in-law Robyn by his side. It doesn't need to be said, but must be written for posterity that Jack was loved by everyone who knew him. Jack loved people and it was obvious. He never said an unkind word about anyone or anything, and he never—let it be repeated—never—complained. He faced the prospect of imminent death with calmness and expressed acceptance. Heaven is a better place with Jack there.

Jack was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on October 20, 1930, but his family moved to Florida when he was young and he spent the majority of his youth in the Miami area. Jack was proud to be a 4th generation Floridian, and the great-grandson of Pinellas County pioneer Daniel McMullen.

He attended college at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas and received a commission in the United States Air Force, through the ROTC program. He became a pilot and flew Trans-Pacific routes from Air Force Bases in California, Hawaii, Utah and Japan. Jack served his Country as an Operations Staff Officer in Saigon Vietnam, where he also flew combat missions. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his war service. He retired from the United States Air Force in December 1973 with the aeronautical rating of Command pilot and the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

In 1974, Jack entered the real estate business in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was active in the business and maintained his relationships until his death. Jack served as president of the local Realtor Association, an officer of the Florida Association of Realtors and a Director of the National Association. In 1991 Governor Lawton Chiles appointed him to the State Appraisal Board where he served for nine years.

Jack had great faith and he loved St. Thomas Episcopal Church and its community. He served on a number of Diocesan committees, the St. Thomas Vestry, and was Senior Warden twice. Given his love for the church, Jack requested that any donations be made to the St. Thomas Episcopal Church Memorial Fund.

In addition to the family members Jack was with when he died, Jack is survived by his brother Donald C. Bowman and his wife, Cynthia, their children Campbell (his wife Catherine, their children Hunter and Sarah) and Andrew (his wife Charlotte, their children James and Fletcher); first cousins Ernst Upmeyer, Mary Kytherine Upmeyer Hardman, Neil McMullen and Rick McMullen, and Ruth McMullen Bursi, and their extended families. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Jackson Harrison Bowman II, Margaret Louise McMullen Bowman, and daughter, Margaret Elizabeth Bowman.

The funeral service will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church located at 1200 Snell Isle Boulevard on Friday, June 5, 2015, at 11:00 A.M. Burial in Largo City Cemetery, Largo, Florida.
