Heather Diane Watts
February 12, 1969 - March 06, 2021

Heather Diane Watts (Jackson) (aka. Sweet Girl, Hedgehog, Heddy, HDW, Do, Hedgie, Hedgling, H-Bomb) of Gilroy, CA passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 6, 2021 as a result of BRCA-1 Positive Ovarian Cancer. Heather is survived by her loving husband Robert Fitzgerald Watts, her beloved sons Jackson Fitzgerald Watts and Joshua Stone Watts, her parents Kay Jackson Martin and Tom Martin, Randy Jackson and Celia Feinstein, her sisters K.D. Kennedy (Tyler) and Michele Hisnay (Tim). She is also survived by her in-laws, June Watts and Randy and Mary Ellen Watts. Heather was a bright, albeit loud light in the lives of all who knew her. No favor was too big or too small for her, especially if it involved shopping online, or if she knew she was helping someone and their family. She was particularly interested in charities contributing to ending homelessness and food insecurity.

Heather was born on February 12th, 1969 in Savannah, Georgia. She moved to Texas at the age of 2, and was always proud to be a Texan. She would say "I wasn't born here (Texas) but I got here as fast as I could."

Heather was a huge football fan. She loved to watch high school football and the NFL. She especially loved watching her son Jackson and nephews Forrest and Shane play high school football.

Being from Houston, her favorite NFL team growing up was the Houston Oilers. At the age of 13, Heather knocked on Earl Campbell's (of the Houston Oilers) front door to ask for his autograph. When she was 11, she spotted Gif Nelson (3rd string quarterback for the Houston Oilers) having lunch at Applebee's. When she asked Gif Nelson for an autograph, he said "so you're a football fan, do you like baseball?" When Heather replied "No, not really" both of the men at the table had a nice laugh – the other gentlemen being Nolan Ryan.

After the Oilers left Houston, she became a die-hard Houston Texans fan. Her license plate is "TXNSGRL". And we are certain if there was a prize for owning Texans gear, swag, clothing, decorations etc. she would be the clear winner. Especially if it referenced #99, JJ Watt.

Heather was a devout Catholic, steeped in religious study. She had a passion for ensuring that all, but especially children, valued and understood their Catholic faith. Over the years, she taught both Children's Liturgy and Confirmation classes at St. Mary's Parish.

Throughout her life, attending and leading Bible Study by various teachers was a critical component to her faith journey; and prayer was a part of her everyday life. Heather led many people to embrace their faith, whether they were Catholic or not, and her passion for people to know how much God loved them came across in her encouragement to others, social media posts, and her boisterous conversations. Some may even say she was a bit bossy about it.

Heather earned a bachelor's in Business Administration from Stephen F. Austin University, and ever the over achiever she went on to get her MBA from the University of St. Thomas in Houston.

Once she realized that working in retail was not the path for her, Heather spent her career working in the field of technology, for COMPAQ in Houston (where she met her husband Rob), Hewlett Packard (HP), TiVo and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). Heather held a variety of positions in marketing, sales, and learning development.

Heather loved nothing more than a fancy party, creating an opportunity for her to dress to the nines, drink champagne (or dirty martinis) and take pictures of the yummy food to share on Facebook. If the fancy party was related to a charity, you could bet your bottom dollar Heather was front and center, helping to organize every detail, there's that bossy thing again, and driving up the bids on the silent auction items.

Heather loved to travel around the globe with family and friends, with some of her favorite destinations being Hawaii, Greece, Italy, Spain and Germany. She was known to just show up, even walking right up the beach to surprise her friend for her birthday. And nothing beat a Disney Cruise with her favorite 'dudes'; aka. Rob, Jackson and Josh.

Speaking of dudes, there was no greater love in her life than her husband Rob, followed closely by their sons, Jackson and Josh. Folks might wonder how a quiet, introverted engineer and an exuberant, extroverted social butterfly could make a marriage of 21 years work. Not only did they make it work, but they flourished with a lot of "But Robster….", and "No sweet girl…" mixed in. Rob was her champion, he saw her potential and let her soar, pulling her back to earth only when completely necessary. Heather married Rob when she was 30, by that time it was safe to say she had kissed her fair share of frogs; she knew what she didn't want and more importantly what she did. By that time it was apparent that Sylvester Stallone was never coming for her.

With Rob as the King love of her life, Jackson and Josh were firmly rooted in the role of Princes to Heather. She treasured them and encouraged them to be responsible and kind to others. Anyone who has had the pleasure of being around them knows that paid off. Whether it was traveling to Boston to watch football with Jackson or San Francisco to watch a play with Josh, she embraced the things they loved and made time to participate in those activities with them. Safe to say both boys know they had the Best Mother Ever. And heaven forbid you hurt her boys, you might just see her whip out her black belt karate skills. Remember, an over achiever, she got her black belt in 2009, in her spare time.

There aren't enough words to explain what her friends meant to her, and they were many. All around the globe, all walks of life, young and old, new and childhood friends, and everyone felt like the center of her world; a rare gift indeed. And let's not forget the many pets in her life – hamsters, guinea pigs and of course her loving dogs Scamper, Gizzie, Oswald, Oscar, and Horatio the Hedgehog.

A prayer vigil will be held on Friday, March 12th at 7:00 PM at St. Mary's Church, consistent with St. Mary's adherence to COVID-19 guidelines. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, March 13th at 10:00 AM outside of St. Mary's Church, in keeping with CDC COVID-19 guidelines. Burial will be private.
