Rufus James Washington Senior was born to Charles Lee Washington Senior and Irene Parks-Washington on March 3rd, 1949 in Bastrop, TX. He was called home on Wednesday, November 18th, 2020 in San Antonio, TX.

He attended Emile High School thru the 11th grade. In the 12th grade, he was one of 10 African American students that volunteered to integrate Bastrop High School and he graduated in 1967.

He was later drafted into the US army. During his two years of service he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal , the Vietnam Campaign Medal, a Purple Heart and the Army Commendation Medal for heroism in action while engaged in military operations against a hostile force in Vietnam.

He was married to Margaret Brown and had two sons. Jeffrey Lewis Washington and Rufus James Washington Jr.

After his service in the military, he spent the majority of his later years working with his brother Clyde Washington as an air conditioning technician and Retired in 2008.

He was preceded in death by his youngest son Rufus James Washington Jr.

He is survived by: Son Jeffrey L. Washington of San Antonio, TX, Ex-wife Margaret Brown of Bastrop, TX, Brother Clyde Washington and Sister in Law Clemetina Rodriguez of San Antonio, TX, Brother Charles Washington Jr. and Sister in Law Erma Francis-Washington of Bastrop, TX, Three grandkids and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and extended family.
