He was the son of John and Sophia (Moseley) Abbot.

He was the husband of Catharine (Abbot) Abbot. They wed in Windham, NH, on July 18, 1833.

His prominence in the community stemmed from his practice of law, title of president of the Stony Brook Railroad, involvement in the family industry of woolen manufacture in Graniteville and Forge Village, service to the town as selectman, town clerk and Westford Academy Trustee, service to the church as clerk for 40 years, and to the commonwealth as representative and senator.
He was the son of John and Sophia (Moseley) Abbot.
