Son of Winslow and Emeline (Blackwood) Bennett, Father born in Dennysville and mother in Pembrook. His father was a ship carpenter. In the 1880 census Irwin was age 19 in his parent's household and had a sister Idella E. then age 6. (His name was spelled Irvin, Irving or Erving.)

Irvin married Mary Jane "Jennie" (Ross) Wilbur March 22, 1890 in Pembroke and had a daughter Blanch who died as a child. Jennie was the former wife ok William Wilber/Wilbur of Pembroke and had two children. She was the daughter of Charles and Eliza (Morgan) Ross of Prince Edwards Island and Eastport Maine.

Irvin died at age 35 yrs and 7 mos, occupation at death was that of a farmer and he was married and resided in Pembroke. He died of consumption.

After his death Jennie remarried in 1899 to Rufus Emro of Eastport.
