Johnnie Max Adams, 72, passed away Wednesday at Lower Cape Fear Life Care in Wilmington, NC. Born in Wake County, he was the son of the late Harland Roe Adams and Jewel Williford Adams. Max was known to all as a kind, compassionate, loving, caring, dedicated and giving man that was a positive influence in the lives of many people.
He was a graduate of Garner High School and Campbell University and prior to retirement, was employed with the NC Department of Transportation.
Max served in leadership roles in both the state and local Democrat Clubs and in addition, was past president of the Garner Lions Club.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, 4:00 pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Garner.
Survivors include his brother, Phillip Adams and wife, Debbi of Surf City; nephew, Phillip Adams, Jr and wife, Sara of San Diego, CA and their daughters, Mackenzie and Ender; nephew, Barron Glenn and wife, Taylor of Wilmington and their daughter, Corinne and son, Walker; nephew, Daniel Glenn and wife, Nicole of Wilmington and their daughters, Eva and Willa, as well as Oliver, his pet and companion for 11 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his niece, Molly Cooper Adams.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the cousins, friends and wonderful, caring neighbors for their love and support and messages of encouragement. Also, thanks to the excellent care team at UNC Rex, Hillcrest and Lower Cape Fear Life Care that were involved in the care of Max.
