Obituary
Gregory Jay Langford, 71, passed away Friday, February 26, 2021 at Anne Arundel Medical Center following a brief illness. Born January 25, 1950, in Terre Haute, IN, he was the son of the late Irvin Jay and Louise (Jordan) Langford of Sheffield, IL.
Valedictorian of Western High School’s Class of 1968 and member of the Black Knights Drum & Bugle Corps, Greg then attended Northwestern University where he participated in a co-op program with IBM, through which he met his future wife Janet (Bussiere). He graduated in 1973, with Highest Distinction from Northwestern University’s Technological Institute with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Sciences. He and Janet were married later that summer in Burlington, VT. While at Northwestern, Greg was a member of Tau Beta Phi Honorary Society, Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity, and played drums in the University’s marching band.
As a Member of the Technical Staff at Bell Laboratories, Greg earned a Master’s in Operations Research from Cornell University in 1974. He was later promoted as a Product Manager in Network Engineering with AT&T, Vice President of Marketing and Product Management for Timeplex and later held the same position for Visual Networks.
Greg is survived by wife Janet, his brother-in-law Albert Zernitz and sister-in-law Renee Langford; three nephews James Sulima (Shari Thorne-Sulima), Greg Zernitz (Kristen) and Jay Zernitz (Shannon); four nieces Allison Nyara, Tonya Moyle (Thatcher), Megan Ossala (JJ), Diane Sulima; and his darling rescue dog Mandy. He was predeceased by his sister Laurel Ann Zernitz, brother Jeffry Langford and nephew Bradley Sulima.
Friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday, March 4, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. A private interment will be held in Adams, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, MD 21122, or the SPCA of Anne Arundel County, 1815 Bay Ridge Ave., Annapolis, MD 21403.
