The Scarlett family moved to Crossville, Illinois in the late 1930s. Gene and his wife, Ferris Fay Kornegger, were high school sweethearts and graduated together from Crossville Community High School in 1951.
Gene and Ferris married on July 20, 1952 in McHenry Methodist Church and marked 68 years of marriage seven months ago. Gene was employed at The Superior Oil Company (later Mobil Oil) and retired in 1990 after 39 years. Gene served his community in a variety of ways over the years including being actively involved in the Crossville summer baseball programs and coaching for the Crossville Peewee, Little League and Babe Ruth teams. He served on the Crossville School and Village Boards. He had been a master mason for over 50 years and was a member of McHenry United Methodist Church.
Gene is survived by his sons David Lane Scarlett of Crossville, IL., Brent Ray Scarlett of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Andy Leonard Scarlett of Vienna, IL; four grandchildren: Dawn (Jon) Kirkwood of Newburgh, IN., Cameron (Jesse) Scarlett of Washington, IN.; Justin (Kiley) Scarlett of Gilbert, AZ., and Celeste (Greg) O'Neal of Grayville, IL. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren and three sisters Janice (Carl) Lechler of Omaha, NE, Carolyn Woodruff of Omaha, NE and Sandra Scarlett of Muskogee, OK.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Ferris Fay (Kornegger) Scarlett and son Phillip Mitchell Scarlett.
A celebration of life for Gene Lane Scarlett will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Crossville United Methodist Church. Friends and family may visit from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Inurnment for both Gene and Ferris will be held at a later date in Kuykendall Cemetery. In
