He was born to Henry Sylvester Wilcock and Ester Tressey Hickman. He was their first born child out of nine children.

Ross moved with his parents to Antimony when he was only two yrs old of age and began his schooling there. When the family moved to Escalante, in about 1897, he continued his schooling there. The family only lived in Escalante for a few years and when Ross' father Henry began working at Widstoe, Ross helped his mother move the family back from Escalante, over the hill, to Antimony again. They lived on a farm there, north of town and Ross was responsible for most of the farm work, with the help of his oldest brother, Edward.

Ross grew to be a rather tall young man with dark hair. He had broad shoulders and was a very strong fellow, during his youth, and became quite heavy after middle age. He helped the family farm at Antimony for about 10 years, at different places, and then they purchased a farm at Angle, in Piute County, north of the Otter Creek Reservoir. Ross helped his father at farming, cutting wood, and trapping, and he also worked some for his uncle, John Hickman.

Ross's sister, Elizabeth was living in Oregon so, in 1921, he went to visit her and her family. He obtained a job working in the timber and remained in Oregon. He married a girl by the name of Gladys Ray, but it was a very short and unsuccessful marriage, and very little is known about her. He married Nellie Wisheart (or Wishart) on Dec 30, 1924 at Portland, Oregon, and they were very happy for a number of years. Ross and Nellie were thrilled when their little son, Virgel Sylvester, was born at St. Helens, Columbia county, Oregon, on October 17, 1925. They were equally happy over the birth of a little daughter, Rosella Gladys, on April 14, 1927, at Columbia City.

The family was living in St. Helens when Ross got the mumps. Then, when complications resulted from them, he nearly died. Nellie, his wife was very attentive to him and helped him to get well. I n June of 1930, Virgel had his tonsils removed and he also had complications. He developed leukemia and passed away on August 12, 1930. He was buried at Warren, Oregon. It was a terrible blow to Ross and Nellie. Ross left Oregon after the loss of his son and went back to Angel. Nellie refused to go with him and so their marriage finally ended in divorce.

Ross lived in his one room cabin in Angle and did his own cooking and housework. He was a good cook and made wonderful sour milk and soda bread. After nine years of living alone, he married again, to another Nellie. She was Nellie Green, who had been previously married to George Fowler. On May 23, 1940, Ross's nephew, Arnol Christensen, and Arnol's wife Donna took them to Ely, Nevada, where they were married on the following day. Nellie had a son and daughter, Leland and Georgia, by her previous marriage, and they were very good to Ross. He felt that he had family once again. Ross and Nellie lived in Joseph for several years and then moved to Richfield, Utah, where Ross died on October 1, 1970. He was buried at Vermillion, Sevier, County on October 5th. After Ross passed away, Nellie went to Washington where her daughter Georgia was living. She died there, at Toppenish, Washington, on May, 31, 1974, and was buride on June 3rd.

Not much is known of Ross's wife, Nellie Wisheart, except that she was a dainty woman. Ross didn't see his daughter Rosella after he left Oregon until 1955, when she visited him in Utah with her husband, Henry C. Seaberg. They visited him a time or two after that and then the family lost rack of Rosella altogether. They had no children.
