Today, on International Women's Day, this incredibly, brave female pioneer is honored with the recognition of her final resting place in her beloved Rio Grande Valley. A pioneer in medicine (the first female physician in South Texas) and a feminist during a time when most women were oppressed, Dr. Mary Ann Headley Edgerton paved the way for many women throughout Texas. Even now, decades later, she is an inspiration to many.
