Funeral services for Melvin Engle Eyster, 85 year-old Thomas, Oklahoma resident, will be held Monday, May 18, 2015, 10:00 A.M. at Bethany Brethren in Christ Church with James Rainwater officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery in Thomas under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home of Thomas.

Melvin was born September 24, 1929, in Thomas, Oklahoma to Raymond and Miriam (Engle) Eyster and passed away Friday, May 15, 2015, at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Melvin was raised southwest of Thomas and attended a rural school and Jabbok School and later moved to Upland, California where he graduated high school in 1947. He accepted Christ into his life as a young man and served the lord faithfully in thought and deed. On April 21, 1957, he married Vivian Reil in Hesston, Kansas and they made their home southwest of Thomas. Melvin was a custom harvester for about 50 years following the harvest run from Texas to Montana. Though he retired from harvesting, he continued his farming operation. Melvin enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. He had a passion for supporting missions as a member of Bethany Church. Memorials may be made to the Brethren in Christ World Missions via the Bethany Brethren in Christ Church.

Melvin is survived by his wife of 58 years, Vivian Eyster of their home in Thomas, Oklahoma; one son, Doug Eyster of Weatherford, Oklahoma; three daughters, Renae Estes and husband, Bud of Dodge City, Kansas, Kim Stauffenberg and husband, Ron of Lone Tree, Colorado, and Lori Wenger and husband, Joe of Wooster, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Lani Eyster, Jordan Dyck, Kirsten Detweiler, Haley Ressler, Kate Wenger, Taryne Wenger, Bryant Eyster and Madison Eyster; and one great-granddaughter, Nora Vivienne Detweiler. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ira and Alvin; five sisters, Naomi, Alma, Agnes, Vera and Lela; and one son, Randall Eyster.
