ELIJAH MAYHEW DIED FRIDAY AFTERNOON
Will Be Buried in Denver, Colorado -- Once Lived in This City -- Served As Soldier in Rebellion -- His Brother, Ed Mayhew, Left For Denver Last Evening

Elijah Mayhew died at a hospital in Denver, Colorado, at 1:30 p.m. Friday, of Bright's disease and asthma, of which he had been a lifetime sufferer. A score or more years ago he resided in this city, his early training being received in the Shelbyville (Indiana) schools and business institutions.
His career embraced many professions, in each of which he attained success. For many years in Shelbyville he was a bookkeeper. He was an expert penman and for a number of years was a professor in a Terre Haute (Indiana) business college.
Mr. Mayhew was a musician of ability, completely mastering the violin. He served a number of years in governmental service in Washington. Mr. Mayhew was an old soldier, serving his country during the stirring scenes of the war of the rebellion. After going west he served a number of years as bookkeeper on a large newspaper published at Denver. The last four years of his life were spent in the hospital where he died.
He was seventy-three years of age and was a brother of Miss Amanda Mayhew and Edward Mayhew, of west Broadway, this city. The telegram conveying the sad news reached the family Friday afternoon. Edward Mayhew started west on a late train to attend the funeral, which will be held in Denver. His wife and daughter are also buried there.
