Edgar was born in 1918 near Hazlet, Saskatchewan. In 1940, he
joined the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry and served
in England, Germany and Italy. Due to his excellent marksmanship,
he became a sniper behind enemy lines. While in the Italian
campaign, he was twice wounded near the end of the war. When
Edgar was a young boy, he had told his mother he would someday
see Rome. He did this while serving in Italy. Upon his return to
Canada, he opened a trucking business in Tompkins,
Saskatchewan where he was active in The Royal Canadian Legion
and the community for many years. He played baseball and
coached minor softball as well as minor and senior hockey in the
White Mud League. He had two sons with his wife Hazel. Edgar
