Mr. Pate was born on Tuesday, 17 October 1876, to Anthony Delois Pate and Elizabeth Lee Ella Todd Pate, in Texas. He was the first of three children born to this union, and the first Pate child to pass.
He was united in marriage to Maggie Day Davenport on on Sunday, 21 December 1902, in Carthage, Panola County, Texas.. Mrs. Pate survives James. They were married 34 years, 6 months. To their union were born two children: daughter Cecil Ann Pate and son James Weldon Pate.
James was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, daughter Cecil Ann Pate, son James Weldon Pate, sister Lena Mae Pate Butler, and brother Cura Anthony Pate.
Interment occurred at the Odd Fellows Cemetery of Cotton Street, Carthage, Panola County, Texas.
