WILLIAM ANDREW BATES 87, of Tucson, died February 4, 2000. Bom June 5, 1912 in Missoula, MT. He was a graduate of Michigan College of Mining and Technology, where he earned a B.S. and M.S. in Metallurgical Engineering. Most of his professional career was spent with the Anaconda Co. in Chile, where he met and married Ruth Bown[Brown] Shearer, a native of Chile. At the time of his retirement, he was General Plant Superintendent of the Andes Copper Mining Co. After retirement, he worked as a consultant in Chile, the Philippines, and Iran. Survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth; son, Charles Bates of Steamboat Springs, CO; daughter, Lorna Pashovich of Westerville, OH; grandchildren, Ted and Kristina Pashovich of Westerville, OH; sister, Betty Sergent of Merritt Island, FL No Services will be held. His ashes will be interred in Columbia, OH beside his ancestors. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY CEMETERY.
