Refusal of Wife to Come Home Ground for Divorce

Refusal of Mrs. Edith M. Hewett to fullfill her promises to return to her husband, living at Garfield, after she had come to Salt Lake presumably for the summer, was alleged by A. L. Hewett, said to be a railroad man, in his suit for a divorce recently granted. Hewett was given custody of their daughter Mary Virginia Hewett, 12 years old. A default decree was granted. Mrs. Hewett having filed a waiver which asserted that property rights had been adjusted and that she was not entitled to alimony. Hewett alleged that they had been married at Texarkana, Texas, though no date was mentioned. It also was set out in the complaint that in May, the year not being mentioned, Mrs. Hewett came to Salt Lake with Hewett's consent, "with the understanding that the defendant would return to Garfield the next fall," She continued to reside in Salt Lake, is set forth, until November, 1920, and refused to return to Garfield. It also is charged that Mrs. Hewett said she had no affection for Hewett, and would be glad if he would obtain a divorce. There was no reason whatever, according to the complaint, for the defendant residing in Salt Lake while plaintiff was compelled to reside in Garfield.
