John Bowman was born in Wilkes county, North Carolina the son of John Bowman Sr. and Sarah Smith. He married Ann Hamilton on March 25th ,1813 in Madison county, Kentucky.
He and the Bowman families were one of the first settlers of Clay county Kentucky and knew and hunted with Daniel Boone.
In about 1834 John and Ann moved their family to Morgan county, Indiana, then to Putnam county after 1840.They lived just west of Bell Union on East county Road 600 South at about 6280 where I believe there are the remains of their old home.
Most of John and Ann's younger children all went to Asbury Academy or College where he had a scholarship that was continued even after his death in 1852 through his son Alfred.

I believe the other daughter of John and Ann Bowman was Serelda Bowman born in 1825.She married Alexander Crawley December 29, 1841 in Morgan county, Indiana. She died sometime between 1851 and 1857.
Their children were Rhonda, James and William.
There is an S.A. Bowman born April 3,1825 and died January 16, 1856 buried in Irons Cemetery, Bellville, Hendricks county, Indiana.
