Ida was born Adelaida Baca to Hermenes Baca and Frances Jaramillo, at their family ranch, Jaramillo Ranch in Magdalena, NM. Ida was the oldest of five children.
Ida married Marcelo Bernales and they eventually relocated to Niland and Oceanside, California, where they raised their family of ten.
Ida loved walking the beaches, Spanish music, dancing, laughing, loved her New Mexico chile/food, her Margaret’s cooking and hearing the word of God, every chance she had she returned too New Mexico to be with her extended family and as the saying goes, “You can take the girl from New Mexico, but you can’t take New Mexico out of the girl.”
Ida was preceded in death by her parents, the father of her children, Marcelo “Mike” Bernales, her son, Junior “Mac” Bernales, grandchildren, Danny Pagdilao, David Bernales and Chantel Bernales, brothers, Antonio “Tony” Baca and Manuel “Nelo” Baca, son-in-law, Florence “Flor” Pagdilao and sisters-in-law, Josephine “Fefa” Baca and Dolores “Lola” Tafoya.
Ida is survived by her children, Dorothy Pagdilao, Rudy Bernales, Frances (Chuck) Mentzer, Rosemary (Benny) Mata, John Bernales, Irene (Johnny) Seranana, Tony (Rosa) Bernales, Christina (Harold) Groff and Lisa (Mike) Viveros, 27 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, her sister Mary (Arnold) Franco of Albuquerque, NM and brother, Herman (Miquela) Baca Jr. of Los Lunas, NM and numerous nieces and nephews
Services will take place at Calvary Vista in Vista, California with Pastor Mike Viveros, on March 20, 2021. Per Ida’s request she will be laid to rest with her mother in New Mexico. A Celebration of life will be held on May 8, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. at Healing Waters Christian Church, 625 Isleta Blvd. SW, Albuquerque, NM. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery in Peralta, NM.
