John Douglas Pruitt, 77, Harrisonville, MO, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City, MO. The family will receive friends 10:00am until 12:00 noon, Friday, February 19, 2021, at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. A private family burial will be held at Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the American Kidney Foundation at: www.kidney.org/donation . Please select ‘Give in honor or in memory of a loved one’ and include John’s name.

John was born June 2, 1943 in McAlester, Oklahoma, a son of Wilburn Argus and Lois Agnes (Robertson) Pruitt. He grew up in Oklahoma and was united in marriage to Glenda B. Bray on September 17, 1965 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. John and Glenda moved to Kansas City in 1966, and to Harrisonville in 1979.

John held a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Hospital Administration. He worked at the University of Kansas Medical Center for seven years, and then worked at Truman Medical Center, Lakewood, for thirty years before retiring in 2003. John was an ordained minister and in 1994, he and Glenda helped start, and were charter members of, the Harrisonville Church of Christ.

John found enjoyment in many activities; playing and coaching athletics, hunting, gardening, and acquiring collectibles, just to name a few. John cherished his relationships as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son. He invested time and was genuinely interested in the lives of his family and friends, both near and far. Above all else, his fulfillment in life was found in worshiping God, and spreading the good news of the Gospel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Charles Pruitt, and a sister, Jo Jameson. John is survived by his wife, Glenda Pruitt, Harrisonville; a daughter, Anita Bowers (Greg), Joplin, MO; three sons, Doug Pruitt (Cheri), Adrian, MO; Will Pruitt (Valerie), Springfield, MO; and Jason Pruitt (Elizabeth), Paola, Kansas; One brother, Don Pruitt (Dianne), Rogers, Arkansas; and ten grandchildren, Ethan Burkett, Grant Burkett, Connor Pruitt, Camryn Pruitt, Hutton Pruitt, Jenna Pruitt, Barrett Pruitt, Isabella Pruitt, Archer Pruitt, and Emma Faith Pruitt.
