Mary, born in Pendleton County, Virginia (now West Virginia), was the daughter of Jacob and Magdalena (Hedrick) Conrad. She married Isaac Teter. They migrated to Macon County, Missouri where she lived until her death.

Based upon the ages given in both the 1850 (age 45) and 1860 census (age 55), her birth year can be calculated to 1804. On the 1870 census, Mary was listed as 67 years old, making her born in 1802. Family records indicate her birth date was 20 October 1804.
