John “Jack” Daniel Malaier passed away on February 13, 2021. He was born October 4, 1942, in Dooley County, GA on Holt Walton’s Experiment Station to John Ashley Malaier and Alice Scarborough Malaier.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Ashley Malaier and son-in-law, David Langford. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marian Collins Malaier and three children, Melissa “Lisa” Malaier Langford, John Lance Malaier, and Lyle Daniel Malaier (Melissa), 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Jane Malaier Reese (Justin); 4 nieces and nephews.

He attended Pineview High School, Mercer University, UGA and Athens Tech. He owned and operated J & S Electric Supply Inc. for approximately 40 years with the help of his family and great friends.

He was extremely active in his church, East Athens Baptist, from 1963 until his death and was a Deacon there for many years. He taught RA’s, Sunday School and sang in the choir. He attended most all his children’s sporting events and grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a supporter of UGA football and attended many of the games since the 70’s.

He was loved by many and respected by all that knew him.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 16th at East Athens Baptist Church at 4:00 pm with Pastor James Sexton and Roby Duval officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. A second visitation will be held Thursday, February 18th at Hughes & Wright Funeral Home in Cordele, GA from 10:00 to 12:00 pm with an interment to follow at Friendship Cemetery in Pineview, GA.

Pallbearers include Eddie Wester, Todd Powell, Brandon Waters, Kevin Crump, Dan Throckmorton, and Ashton Malaier. Honorary Pallbearers include Keith Paul and Greg Kellum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to East Athens Baptist Church, 4325 Lexington Road, GA 30605.
