MARY WEBB

Mary Wardlaw, daughter of Joseph and Sarah Wardlaw, was born March 13, 1874, and passed away Wednesday, March 4, 1953, at Knoxville, aged 78 years, 11 months and 21 days.

She was born on a farm eight miles northeast of Chariton, where she grew up. She attended Centennial school.

On May 22, 1898, she was united in marriage to John F. Webb, and to this union were born four children, all dying in infancy. Later, Mr. and Mrs. Webb moved from the farm to Chariton, and in 1914, came to make their home in Knoxville, where her husband worked as a blacksmith.

For many years, until her health failed, Mary had continued her work in the church, which she began in youth, and since 1914 in the First Methodist church of Knoxville. She did much work in Woodman's Circle, Pythian Sisters, The Women's Relief Corps, in which she spent 34 years, and the W.S.C.S., of which she was a charter member. She also served as Court Bailiff for many years.

The deceased was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1933, her four infant children, her father in 1908, her mother in 1925, who had made her home with her for six years, a sister, Lylie, at the age of 22 years, and two brothers, Joseph, aged 27, and Albert, aged 70.

She leaves to mourn two sisters, Mrs. Eleanor Iserman, Freeport, Ill., and Mrs. Agnes McKinney, Chariton; one nephew, Gerald Iserman, and also her husband's relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held at 3 o'clock Saturday from the Bybee & Davis funeral home, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Paul Hann. Burial was at Zion cemetery, eight miles northeast of Chariton, Lucas county, Iowa.
