Ruth (Vance) Thomas, wife of ex-Judge A.D. Thomas, died at her home on west Wabash avenue Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, after a long and terrible battle with the dread destroyer, consumption. Everything that humun skill could do to alleviate her sufferings and prolong her life was done but the terrible monster would not. yield, and she passed quietly away at the age of 33 years, not quite half way on the journey allotted man of three score and ten years. Ruth Vance Thomas was the daughter of Robert Vance, and was born in this citv at the old home, corner of Water and College streets, April 20, 1855. July 25, 1878, at the age of 23, she was married to Judge Albert D. Thomas, and for ten years has been his true and faithful helpmate and companion. Two children have been born to them. A daughter, Helen, a bright little one of eight years survives to bear with her father the loss of an idolized wife and mother. The other child died in Infancy in 1883. Mrs. Thomas was an earnest, zealous member of the congregation of Center Presbyterian church, and was a noble character. The husband and motherless daughter have a full share of the sympathy of Crawfordsville, whose great heart goes out to those in affliction in tenderness. The funeral took place at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, services conducted by Rev. R. J. Cunningham, assisted by Rev. E. B. Thomson. Interment at Oak Hill.
