Mark LaVoy Forbes, 87, of Mills River, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2021 on his 87th birthday at his home.

He was born in Clinton, Utah to the late LaVoy Forbes and Cleona Forbes. Mark is also preceded in death by his brother, Neil Forbes and his sister, Nola Fowers.

He served honorably in the US Army during the Korean War. Following this he graduated from Utah State University in Logan, Utah with a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Mark retired from Dupont after 33 years.

He was a High Priest with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was a member of the Asheville Ward. Mark and his wife, Jo Ann served three missions for the church in Xian and Jinan China and Uganda Africa.

He was a man of service who volunteered with many organizations, such as Habitat for Humanity, Hospice, and Meals-on-Wheels. Mark enjoyed woodworking and was an excellent carpenter. He also had an unmatched sense of humor that endeared him to any lucky enough to have been on the receiving end of one of his jokes.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jo Ann Wells Forbes; four children, Lisa Stovall Huntley (Andrew), Aubrey David Stovall (Jan), Jennifer Leah Stovall, and Brian Edward Stovall (Sharlene); ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Mark is also survived by three children, Mark Lee Forbes (Julie), Martin Forbes (Wendy), and Marlaina Forbes-Coonradt (Brian); five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren by a previous marriage.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at the Asheville Ward on Sweeten Creek Road of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 3401 Sweeten Creek Road, Arden, NC 28704.
