W. A. West, building contractor of 3709 S.E. Hawthorne boulevard, died Thursday at Holladay Park hospital after six months' illness. Services will be Saturday at 9 a.m. at Gable's Funeral home, followed by internment in Rose City cemetery.
Mr. West was born in Ellsworth, Kan., October 15, 1885 [note by Arleta: At age 19, he is listed with father and brother, Robert M. in Larned, Rush Co., KS, farming] he came to Portland first in 1905; went to Oklahoma in 1921, returning to Portland ten years later.
Surviving are the widow Eva; five sons and two daughters: Walter J., Ontario, Or.; Arthur L., Vancouver, Wash.; William D., Robert M. and Richard M. West, and Dorothy Nagle, all of Portland, and Grace Nichols, Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; two brothers, R.D. and Lawn West, and a brother and two sisters in the midwest.
