THE silence of deep mourning lies over two homes in Sioux City, that of John Albright and that of Mr. and Mrs. William Bronkhorst, elderly parents of John Bronhorst. Both John Albright and John Bronkhorst were victims or the explosion and fire which startled Sioux City Monday night...
Mrs. Albright lies, grief stricken, on her bed, or at times gets up and attempts to do little things about her house, a house which never again will echo to her husband's cheery voice, yet a house of which every room speaks to her of him. Friends and neighbors are kind, but human kindness in times of loss, especially such a tragically sudden loss, is a clumsy thing and Mrs. Albright must bear her sorrow alone. There are no children's hands to comfort her, no children's lips to speak loving words, for twice before, once, almost as tragically as last night, death has visited her home. First the dark garbed specter called her youngest son when he was 10 years of age. On his second visit he snatched up her only other son, who was killed in an automobile (motorcycle) accident when he was 20 years of age. But through both sorrows she had her husband at her side. This time she is alone. When word of the explosion first reached her, it was not definitely known whether or not Mr. Albright was in his shop at the time. There were several hours of anxious hope, during which time friends attempted tor keep Mrs. Albright at home. The strain was to great for her, however. Truth, even though it meant the deepest sorrow, was better than uncertainty. Mrs. Albright insisted on going to the scene of the tragedy. When she got downtown she identified her husband's automobile. It was certain then that he was among the smoldering ruins. It was all that her friends could do to get her away from the building, so frantic were her efforts to dash into the flames in a mad search for her husband's body.
