William Sterling "Bill" Baker, 77, of Matthews, NC passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, after several years of declining health.

Born August 19, 1943, in Spartanburg, SC; son of the late William Edward and Virginia Anita Tilley Baker.

Graduated in 1961 from Chapman High School and spent his working years primarily as a sales engineer in the paper industry where he enjoyed lifelong friendships with a host of co-workers and customers as well.

Bill considered himself blessed to have so many good friends in Charlotte and all over the country who stayed close never losing touch throughout his retirement.

An avid amateur pool player, he will be remembered throughout the billiards community for his talent and competitive spirit.

Survived by his devoted wife Judith Anne Baker, beloved daughter, Teri Leigh Bagwell (Clark), and the joy of his life, grandsons, Clark William and Parker Joseph; sisters, Nancy Baker Melson, Ruth Baker Hurley (Will) and Janice Baker Jolley; and brother, Thomas Edward Baker; bonus family, Michele (Mark) Oswald, Robert (Mary) Conlon, Timothy (Alecia) Conlon; and grandchildren, Josh, Austin, Joe, Katie, Caneel, and Rex.

Services and burial held on Thursday, February 11, 2021, in Inman, SC.

Memorials could be made to a charity or organization of choice.
